Hi there; just wanted to share a (mostly) positive experience I just had with the moving company, World Wide Van Lines. My wife & I moved from Nashville to Little Rock; we worked through World Wide Van Lines, after comparing them to Atlas & Stevens Van Lines. All three quoted very similar prices. We were moving 6,915 pounds of stuff, which included a glass coffee table, lots of electronics and a Honda Civic. I asked for a not to exceed price, and was quoted $3900.00; after doing my homework here, I got them to agree to and sign a paper guaranteeing no shuttle fee on the loading end of the trip (as I didn't think it was necessary; they ended up using a shuttle, but not charging me). Turns out a not to exceed price is different than a not to exceed or less our price was guaranteed, and they don't even bother weighing the truck. That's fine with me, but the vocabulary is a little confusing. The packers were very courteous, quick and efficient. They showed up on time, asked permission to open doors, use the bathroom, get water, etc. They packed our entire house in less than four hours. The shippers came the next day; they were about one hour later than the expected time, but called to say they were going to be late. Again, they were very courteous and efficient. Our glass table was crated up by a third party company (amazing - they build a full-fledged crate out of 2x4s in the driveway). Little Rock, our shipment was scheduled for a three day window; it showed up on the first day. The driver got his 18 wheeler down an absurdly thin, southern street, and so no shuttle charge on this end either (although i bet the neighbors were mad) .. The crew on this end was extremely exhausted, having just moved someone in at Jacksonville, driven for a few hours, and then was going to Atlanta after our stop. But again, they were courteous. As our boxes began showing up, we scrambled to keep tally on the inventory list; it's hard to keep up with them, but we managed. In the end, one lamp (about a hundred bucks) was snapped in half, and the driver was VERY apologetic about it; a few wine glasses were shattered, and .. eek .. three boxes were missing. Turns out the three boxes were lost. World Wide. The boxes, on the other hand, are missing in action :( But fully insured, and a claim is in process, and our representative is very good about following up with us about the status. So, overall, I give World Wide a B+ .. Everyone was NOT out to screw us; - in fact, everyone was very professional. The lost items are disappointing but replaceable, My advice, other than what everyone has already posted here (such as videotaping your move, ensuring a visual weight based quote, etc) - get a few friends together for move in day to help checking boxes off the list! They move so quick, its hard to keep up, and in the end, its a reaaal pain to figure out what is really missing. But through it all we were pleased and ready to start our new life here.
